Overseas Property SpainSpain offers a diverse selection of property to all types of property purchaser and investor. Buying and investing in Spain is now very different to what it was 20 years ago with hundreds of new developments around the country and thousands of resales available. With so much choice of property and developments it is often difficult for new overseas property purchasers and investors to decide where to start looking. Two key areas PGi has identified as offering some of the best potential returns for investors are Almeria and Murcia. They are also superb holiday spots in their own right so if a holiday home or retirement home is more what you are looking for then both if these areas are well worth considering. AlmeriaCosta de Almeria is the sunniest, driest part of Spain guaranteeing visitors and holiday makers around 300 days of sunshine throughout the year. Sitting at the south eastern corner of Spain, Costa de Almeria developed later than its neighbouring costas as a holiday destination. Resort developments are continuing to sprout up although not in such numbers to be detrimental to the area. Popular locations are the Cortijo Grande Valley and the resort area of Mojacar. The Costa de Almeria lies to the east of the Costa del Sol and is part of the south eastern province of Almeria. The capital city of the same name is a former Roman port where the evidence of Moroccan occupation remains through its Moorish architecture - particularly the upper city with its narrow streets and the walls of the Alcazaba fortress. It is a coastline of excellent beaches offering safe holiday conditions for families. Water skiing, windsurfing and sailing are the main sea bourne activities and Cabo de Gata, with its picturesque beach and crystal-clear waters, is particularly popular with scuba divers. The climate makes the region a year-round favourite with golfers and two excellent courses along the Costa de Almeria are at Almerimar and Aguadulce. Hikers and mountain bikers have the lunar landscape of the Sierra Alhamilla for both nature walking and bird watching. Flying time to most of the Costa de Almeria is around two hours and charter airlines use regional airports Almeria and Malaga for direct flights into the region. Developments Almeria MurciaMurcia finds two seas on one coastline - the Mar Menor and the Mediterranean - , impressive cliffs, heavenly beaches of endless white sand, lively ports and wild coves with crystal clear water, more than 3,000 hours of sun a year and mild temperatures - even in winter - with a yearly average of more than 18ºCMurcia, according to the nineteenth-century writer Augustus Hare, would, 'from the stagnation of its long existence, be the only place Adam would recognize if he returned to earth'. Founded by the Moors in the ninth century, Murcia evolved as an important trading centre on the south east corner of the Iberian peninsula. Four centuries later it became the regional capital, and during the eighteenth century was extensively rebuilt. Enclosed by mountains, the city still maintains an air of languid tranquillity, far removed from the coastal tourist resorts of the Costa Blanca Today Murcia is being discovered by tourists and property investors alike and offers an excellent location for your holiday or retirement home as well as an excellent area of Spain for savvy investors.
